Wedyan and the Desert Research Center Forge Strategic Partnership
Wedyan Agricultural Development and the Desert Research Center have entered into a strategic partnership to develop and reclaim desert lands, grounded in the concept of sustainable agricultural development.
High-Level Meeting
This agreement was concluded during a meeting at the Institute’s headquarters, attended by a Wedyan Board delegation led by Haytham Al Mallah (Chairman), along with board members Adel Hussein and Mohamed Aboujeela, and by Dr. Hossam Ahmed Shawky (Director of the Desert Research Center), Dr. Mohamed Ezzat (Deputy Director for Projects), and expert professors specializing in water desalination and dryland agriculture.
Memorandum of Understanding & Joint Committee
At the meeting, both parties agreed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their areas of cooperation and to establish a joint committee that will oversee future collaboration—particularly in developing smart-farming systems across the Middle East.
Mutual Praise for Expertise & Innovation
The Wedyan delegation lauded the Desert Research Institute’s high professionalism and research capabilities, while the Institute commended Wedyan’s initiative as a cutting-edge model of agricultural investment in the region, highlighting the company’s skill in harnessing information systems and artificial intelligence for project management.
Follow-Up with Minya Governor
These strategic steps follow a recent meeting between Wedyan and Major General Emad Kudwani, Governor of Minya, at the governorate’s headquarters, where Wedyan’s investment plans were discussed and the launch of the first development phase in Minya was officially announced.
Export & Investment Targets
Wedyan Group for Agricultural Development and Food Industries aims to achieve $100 million in exports within 18 months of bringing its five factories online. The agro-industrial complex—set on 10,000 feddans in Minya—will grow medicinal and aromatic plants, house a dedicated drying facility, and include additional distillation plants in Cairo Governorate, with a combined annual capacity of around 50,000 tons and total investments of approximately $50 million.
